The Fast was designed to inherit the design of the TJAR race backpack, but the biggest drawbacks were its weight and the cumbersome zipper that made it difficult to open and close (some athletes even said they didn’t need the center zipper). Of course, Japanese manufacturers, often referred to as “garages,” tend to use water-repellent zippers, and I wanted to break away from that trend. I also personally wanted to create a backpack without zippers. Other issues included the high cost due to the use of many fabrics and parts, and the delay in parts caused by the pandemic. This time, I aimed to eliminate these issues as much as possible, while also achieving lightness, cost reduction, elimination of unnecessary parts and loops, and multi-functionality.
From there, I created the pattern myself from scratch, reducing the number of fabric pieces as much as possible while maintaining multi-functionality. And I redesigned it to be simple and beautiful in appearance. Of course, I also incorporated the lightweighting technology based on reverse thinking that I had cultivated through my race backpacks from TJAR 2018 to TJAR 2022.
After that, I had thorough discussions with the factory planner. I’m sorry to the factory, but it goes without saying that they accommodated my whimsical requests as an entrepreneur. I am in awe of their ideas that went beyond the factory’s limits, and I can only express my gratitude. The bungee cords included with the backpack body are also ideally placed.
